Spruce Mountain Area Robotics teams (S.M.A.R.T) consisting of three robotic programs under one name. FIRST LEGO League, VEX Robotics and FIRST Robotic Challenge.  The mill towns of Jay and Livermore Falls have undergone dramatic social and economic changes in the last twenty years. The mill that once employed 3000 people now employs 800 people, and these are increasingly highly technical jobs.  In the next few years, the mill will need to replace retiring workers with new, highly-trained workers.  Our hope is that participation on a SMART robotics teams can help develop and train these highly skilled workers.  The need for engineers and technical workers is, and will remain, high.

Our local school system has become RSU (Regional School Unit) #73 during this last three years.  As these two rival high schools become one school of 535 students, we are excited that we can offer new and exciting programs.  LEGO Robotics at the middle school, Pre-engineering classes (VEX) and FIRST Robotics Competition have led the way for new and innovative programs at our schools.  SMART Robotics has become a driving force for successful programs in the new RSU.
